Temiya Cave, a nationally designated historic site,
is located right next to the Otaru Museum.
Cave carvings from the post-Jomon period about
1600 years ago are preserved.
(The post-Jomon period used mainly in Hokkaido refers
to the Yayoi to Kofun period in mainland Japan.)
Cave carvings from this period can only be seen in
Otaru's Temiya Cave and Yoichi's Fugoppe.
