The hydrangea garden at Otaru Kihinkan (Former Aoyama Villa) are bursting with approximately 600 stunning and dramatic blooms! The garden will be open until mid-August but they're in full bloom now so be sure to stop by!
The lavish villa was built by the Aoyama family, one of the three leading herring fishing tycoons, and took 6 years to complete. You can read all about it here.

2019 Ushio Matsuri - Otaru's Biggest Summer Festival

Otaru's biggest summer event USHIO MATSURI 
(Tide Festival) is almost here!! This festival is 
held to show gratitude for the sea and 

hope for the development and prosperity of the city.

The main stage is located at Marine Square near Pier No. 3,
 just a short 10-15 minute walk from JR Otaru Station. 
There'll be lots of food and vendor booths so be sure
 to stop by and experience our famous summer festival!!

People from various neighborhoods 
gather to carry “mikoshi” or portable shrines.
